I understand that this feels one-sided but if one is to have a better understanding of a man, they must learn all they can from people who had worked with him, not just the supportive friends’ and family view.
Cecil B. DeMille is my favorite Golden Age producer-director, because the only thing he had in common with Walt was that he was a perfectionist and a visionary. DeMille also made his actors stars, like Charlton Heston.

These sound a lot like disgruntled employees. Easy to bash someone who can’t defend themselves. There are always 2 sides to every story, disapointing that you don’t show both them. Not ONE person offering any other version of these stories. Poor and irresponsible reporting. Shame

This is not so much an “expose’” on Walt Disney as it is an attempted critical look at the issues that led to the 1941 strike and how it affected his studio and the man himself. While some of the “witnesses” offered objective comments, others such as Bill Melendez, Elliot Daniel, and Richard Schickel are known to present personal angendas in place of fair assessments. Melendez in particular has a lot of distorted views on things. And Daniel is the author of a book of questionable accuracy.

Lighten up, growing up we’ve been told all the good aspects of Disney and his achievements, at one point or another we’ve read through various biographies. This is probably the only story that tells the good, the bad, and the ugly of Disney, besides even I have gotten tired of hearing “such good” things from his fans and ass-kissers.
jguelde2 posted: 01 May at 7:07 am
Were in this does it show any “good”? All this does is repeat over and over what a horrible person Mr. Disney was and I don’t buy it. Like I said, not one person offering a different version of any of these stories.
KTChamberlain posted: 01 May at 10:05 pm
Technically there is some good mentioned. They talked about how great it felt calling Disney by his first name, how great the studio was, everybody joyfully worked overtime, loved the end results of their hard work, they just didn’t like him not giving CREDIT when credit was DUE!!!

Disney is still a highly important figure…everyone has skeletons in their closets. Also every historical figure’s image gets molded over time, its a fact. Our country’s fore fathers all have dirty laundry in their hamper as well. How about you reading this…how would you react if you lived in Disney’s shoes and faced his challenges? Our world needs icons and why not Walt Disney?

your just conditioned in a sense to believe the beauty, its a good human trait but at the same time it can be misleading, this man had quite a dark side and it was the predominant voice.
Behind the closed doors there is so much to go on, i should know… Just take my word that this world is almost an illusion to how it really is, we are consumers that never see where our meat comes from, our children are being introduced to adult oriented things, no surprise, now its just more mainstream

Walt Disney is a Hero.
Maybe he wasnt the super nice guy that many people associate him with, but at least you have to admire him as a business man.

luridplanet posted: 25 May at 4:18 pm
The bad things just make him more human. I just look at it as objectively as I can.
KTChamberlain posted: 25 May at 8:07 pm
And your point is…?
luridplanet posted: 26 May at 1:54 pm
It’s not worth getting pissed-off about any bad things he did.
Krishdish posted: 31 May at 2:04 pm
Too bad he once had a falling out with Charles Mintz and Ub Iwerks!

Disney as NOT a Nazi!

Uncle Walt was an anti-semite and racist; as head of a major studio he denied people jobs accordingly. After his employees struck for some recognition for their creative contribution, he sent a mafia hitman to “negotiate” with them, i.e., to put the fear of death into the hearts of artists, some of the most defenseless and idealistic people on earth. After he was forced to acquiesce to their fair demands he vindictively ruined their lives by CREATING the Hollywood blacklist. Heartwarming.
DeityofStuff posted: 03 Jul at 11:14 am
Well he seemed to really support the nazi party, so, I dunno- I think calling him a “Nazi” is quite accurate.

Ah yeah, if he did work with them, Mickey Mouse would have NEVER existed.

he was so conservative that when tommy kirk, the popular teen star of ‘old yeller’ and ‘the shaggy dog’ revealed to uncle walt that he was gay, disney fired him. i fear for zac efron and the jonas brothers….
